NOAA RECEIVERS
(Q) Can I use an ordinary scanner?
(A) Sure....if you want a poor picture.
OK, WXSAT receiver 101...
The receiver must be capable of receiving 137.5 Mhz and a few other
frequencies in that area.
The radio receiver also MUST have a 40 khz wide I.F bandwidth.
MOST scanners DO NOT.
Even radios that have "wide" mode do not have a full 40khz width.
I can provide radios that I have refurbished and modified for NOAA reception.
The radios are specially modified 10-channel scanners.
The radio gets a complete "going over" making sure all features are operational,
volume and squelch
controls are clean and noise free. Power supplies are beefed up a bit for
reliability. External speaker jacks are converted to
constant low-level outputs, suitable for inputting to your computer's sound card.
The I.F. filtering has been opened up for a full
40khz bandwidth. Switches are added to turn the internal speaker on or off, and
in the case of the BC-210, a switch
is added to re-enable normal scanner frequency and narrow I.F filtering.

note. BC210 has been discontinued. The 142's have better response.
