Biography:
--------------------- From my 1999 season ------------------
My name is, Kristin Edwards; I am
20 years old. I have been riding motorcycles since I was 4. I started
racing competitively about 6 years ago. Before that, I was racing
on the track, but I wouldn't exactly call it racing. I ride a YZ400F.
It is a 4-stroke and can only be run in the Open class against, for the
most part, bigger bikes. I share the bike with my father, Rich.
He races it in the Senior A class and the Sportsman class. My younger
sister, Tracy, who is 17, also races. She rides a CR125.
I have completed my second year
at Plattsburgh State University and am currently in my third semester as
a junior. I am an elementary education major. It is difficult
to balance racing and school, but tons of hours in the library during the
week seems to be working quite well. With only 3 months to my racing
season, and limited funds, I have to work hard to complete my goals.
The 1999 season was a learning experience, to say the least. It's
a little tough being back to "square one". My major accomplishment
for this year was coming 9th in the Hot Shoe event at Susquehanna Speedway
in Newberrytown, PA. I'm anxiously looking forward to next year and
to improving on our new 600 Rotax.
--------------------- From my 2000 season ------------------
The following entry
is made by Kristin's dad: (Kristin is now 21, Tracy is 18)
The start of this season was Daytona.
Kristin, Tracy, Tracy's boyfriend Anthony, and myself
made the trip. Kristin's spring break from college
did not line up with Daytona, so we had to make an abreviated trip. We
left Thursday night from NY and drove straight to Savannaha GA for the
first race. Kristin liked the track, but apparently the 40+ other 600 Pro
Sports also did ! She rode well , considering her limited time on the 600.
However, she didn't make the main. Two of our friends were involved in
a nasty accident in the 600 Pro Sport main that night. Will Adams and Shane
Livingston went down on the last lap, hard. Shane broke his collarbone,
and Will took a bruising (cracked his helmet down the middle).Next was
Barberville in FL. We were beat from the drive down , and getting done
at Savannaha fairly late. I figured we would get to Ormond beach in FL
by about 5:30am and only have time to take a quick shower and get to the
track at Barberville. Tracy and myself were to race the amatuer races
starting in the AM. Well, I let Tracy drive (I'm still shaking!), took
a nap, and we make unreal time and got to Ormond beach by 3:00am. I woke
up once on the way and the speedo read 85mph (that's hauling the trailer!).
Well, the amatuer races were cancelled cause of rain. We did get practice
and some heat races in though. The track was real smooth, although the
groove was a bit narrow. Kristin then raced that night at the same track.
Again she rode well but didn't make the main. I don't remember the details
of her races that night. This brings us to Sunday and the Hot Shoe
Race at Barberville. Same old story with Kristin, except she really looked
fast in practice. She had a fairly good heat race (4th), so atleast she
was on the front row for the semi. Getting closer! The last day for us
in Daytona was Monday (had to get Kristin back to college). All 3 of us
were racing that day. Kristin in the 600 Pro Sport, Tracy in the 504cc
(riding YZ400F), and myself in the 50+ class (on the 400F also). Tracy
is new to the bike so her results were not what she wanted. I managed a
3rd (some fast old guys there!). Kristin almost made the main with a direct
transfer! She got a great holeshot, 2nd with Brian Smith in the lead. She
held that, and looked smooth, but slipped off the groove on the 2nd lap
in the 2nd turn, and that was it. She didn't loose her composure though,
and held on for 4th place. She had a front row start for the semi, but
got a terrible start. On the second lap she tagged another rider's back
wheel going into turn 1 and high sided. She came out of it relatively unhurt,
but the bike wasn't in shape for the restart. Only the winning rider would
go to the main, so the odds were nil anyway. That was it. A nightmare for
us driving all the way back to NY right after the races as we were all
pretty tired. Kristin's next race should be 3 Rivers in Canada April
29th. Then the Hot Shoe at Harrington. I'll conform to how she posted
her results in the past, from now on (using her 'results' pages).
