Massage | The Trager® Approach |
Hot Stone Therapy

Massage
Massage is as old as touch itself. We all have an innate knowledge that touch heals. Massage offers many healing benefits such as:

  • Improved circulation
  • Improved breathing
  • Pain reduction
  • Stress relief
  • Improved body awareness
  • Relaxation of the nervous system
  • Maintenance of muscle tone
  • Improved posture
  • Improved joint mobility
  • Body/mind integration

During your massage session at Bodymind Massage Therapy, you can expect to be treated to a unique massage tapered to fit your individual needs with the overall theme being your health and wellbeing.

You may request that a certain technique be the focus of your session, or your therapist may utilize whatever techniques she feels would benefit you at the moment. One or more of the follwing techniques may be used during your session:

  • Swedish
  • Deep Tissue
  • Reiki
  • Joint and
    Soft-Tissue Mobilizations
  • Relaxation Massage
  • CranioSacral
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Myofascial Massage
  • Medical
  • Pre-Natal

After your massage, it is well advised to hydrate — drink a good amount of water so that your body can rid itself of any metabolic waste products that have been pushed into your bloodstream during the massage such as lactic acid. Lactic acid, a naturally occurring metabolic waste product is produced by muscle tissue when it is worked either actively during exercise or passively during a circulatory massage.

Hot Stone Therapy

The Trager® Approach
The Trager Approach is a gentle form of bodywork that aims to give positive, pleasureable feeling experiences to your body and mind, rather than reinforcing painful ones. Many people believe in the "no pain, no gain" philosophy, but Trager believes in "what can be softer, easier and freer". The Trager Approach can help to release mental and physical holding patterns, promotes deep relaxation and aids in increasing mobility and balance.

The Trager Approach comes in two parts:

  1. Table Work
The client lies on a massage table and is gently touched, moved and supported by the practitioner within your normal and comfortable range of motion. The feeling is of gentle, rhythmic, wave-like motions. The movement feels as if it is effortless and neither coming from you or from the practitioner. In these movements, tension disappears and old patterns slip away as new, freer movement possibilities arise.
  2. Mentastics
Mentastics are The Trager Approach's self-care movements. For those of you who have had physical therapy, you know that often the PT will give you a series of exercises to do on your own. Mentastics are similar to that idea, but are not strengthening exercises. The movements are designed to help you explore what could be freer in your own body. Taught individually or in groups, Mentastics allow each person to explore free and easy movement as well as stillness in their own body, in their own way, in their own time.

Benefits of Trager Sessions
The gentle, rhythmic movements of the Trager Approach can be beneficial to many people. Anyone who seeks massage or bodywork could benefit from Trager, especially people who suffer from:

Stress Multiple Sclerosis
Muscular Dystrophy Physical/emotional trauma
Limited movement Post-Polio Syndrome
Everyday aches and pains Cerebral Palsy
Back and neck pain Parkinson's Disease
Muscle spasms Sports and other injuries
Depression Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Headaches Fibromyalgia
