Millrock Writers Collective

BYLAWS
 

Article I. Purpose 

 

The Millrock Writers’ Collective (mwc) will publish literary work and shall promote the artistic and economic welfare of its members through cooperative efforts in accordance with the following principles:

 

  • Governing Board. The governing board consists of a President, Secretary, Treasurer and five members at large.

 

  • Consensus control. All decisions are arrived at by a consensus of the governing board.

 

  • Instrumental nature of capital. Each member’s investment will be used only for the purposes of publication and distribution of member’s work. Capital is used only to operate the mwc.

    

  • Independent thought.  The collective shall operate as a whole with the understanding that the individual goals and concerns of its members shall be respected and acknowledged in its decision-making process.

 

  • Artistic support.  The collective shall provide aid and support for its members to advance their art and publication.

 

  • Development. The business and artistic pursuits of the collective shall be mindful of both its guiding principles and of the need for growth.

 

  • Stewardship. The collective will nurture new writers as it brings quality work to the community. 

 

         

Article II. Membership

 

Membership qualifications.  To be admitted to membership in the collective, a prospective member must be a working or aspiring writer who:

          (a) Agrees to abide by the provisions of these principles.

          (b) Is approved by consensus of the governing board.

(c) Pays any membership fees and/or offer initial investment capital as set in accordance with these principles.

 

Membership shall be available without any social, racial or religious discrimination, and without discrimination based upon age, sex, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or nationality.

 

Member Obligations.  Members shall:

  1. Contribute their share of investment capital to the mwc when these amounts are due and payable.
  2. Regularly attend meetings.
  3. Actively participate in the decision making process and in the work of the collective.

 

Member Copyright.  The member retains copyright for all his/her works and grants the mwc specific and exclusive publication rights until the terms of agreement have been met as set forth in the publication contract.

 

Member termination. Membership will be terminated if a member is not in good standing or is not abiding by the guiding principles of the mwc. Termination of membership will be decided by consensus of the remaining members of the governing body.

 

Article III. Publishing Books

 

Types of Books.  The mwc will publish works by collective members that are of literary and artistic excellence. The collective retains the right to refuse to publish a book that it deems offensive or inappropriate.
