KW900EZP EZ'
Program by

In early 2000, I found that the Kenwood 900mhz commercial radios store
the Freq.
data in the file saved by the KPGxxD program.
By editing that file with a binary editor
and changing the values, you can move the radio into the 900mhz Ham
Band very
easily.
Although, it is simple enough to edit
the file and the are programs to calculate the
what the data should be for a given frequency, KW900EZP ,
automates the process
by having you program in specific FCC Channels and then later converts
them to Ham
Freq's... The new FCC Ch. Number Vs Ham Freq. Chart
will provide you a list of
what Channel numbers need to be programmed in
prior to running KW900EZP.
KW900EZP currently supports all the 900mhz Kenwood
radios, but this is a work in
progress and enhancements are always being made as
time permits.
For the older KW's (TK431/TK931/TK941) there is only one spot in the
saved file
to change the freq. data and the rptr. split of
39mhz is fixed in the radio's firmware. This
is true even if you edit the data manually. These
radio's require you to use 2 systems aka
banks to store the Xmit freq. & Rec. freq.
separately. When using KW900EZP, program
the rec. freq's and also select Transmit Inhibit =
Y, the normal defaults for rptr. xmit, and
simplex select Talk Around = Y. After you run the saved file through
'EZP, the freq's will
now display the correctly and the repeater input
freq's have TA enabled in order to allow
the freq's to display properly. There is one exception, in that the
TK-931 (KPG5D) repeater
input freq's will not be in TA mode and will
display 39mhz above the input freq.. This is due
to the range of the VCO. To toggle between
the 2 systems, SCAN will have to be used..
The SCAN option is 'Last Used' and the scan
dwell needs to be set to '0'.. I know its
not perfect, but it the best I could think of at
the time.
The newer KW's (TK-481/TK-981) will work as a normal radio should as it
has a
separate entree for Xmit & Rec. in the saved file. The only problem
will be the new Ham freq.
will not display properly for the TK-481 ver. 1 (KPG35D).
There is a mod. to the KPG35D
program , which I do not have , to allow you
to directly program up the TK-481 Ver 1.
without the need to change the freq. data in the saved file..
To start in the conversion process:
_ Run the software (KPGxxD) for the radio you have..
Program in all the FCC ch. numbers from
the KW900EZP freq. chart, save your work when you
are completed and exit out of the KPGxxD
Program.
_ From a dos, display the complete file name you just saved.
_ Run KW900EZP and when prompted, enter the full name of the file
saved by KPGxxD. KW900EZP
will determine what type of
program the file was saved with and will make the changes
accordingly.
KW900EZP will also only make changes to normal Commercial freq. data
and will leave any data it
does not understand or any data
already changed to ham freq's in prior runs.
_ Now run the KPGxxD for your radio and read file back in
and you should see the freq. display on the
bottom of window when you
select a group aka Channel. There are two exceptions to this, which I
addressed above.
All of the fields on the KPGxxD program can be updated at any
time, i.e. PL, DPL, Names,
TA, ..., with the exception of the FCC Ch. number.
If changes are made there, you will have to
rerun KW900EZP to get the Ham freq. back.
At the Current time, 'EZP does not make any changes to
the 'TEST' Freq's. There maybe a future
enhancement to change this. Any changes are posted in the AR902Mhz and
900mhz yahoo groups.
